Chapter 5. Mara Drives to 8th Angle

Quote from the article “The Legend of Buddha’s Battle with the God of Death”:
“Having won this preliminary victory before sunset, the victor in the first watch of the night gained knowledge of his past lives, in the second watch — the divine eye of all-seeing vision, and in the last watch — understanding of the chain of causality. With the coming of dawn, he experienced full enlightenment.
Then for seven days Gautama — now Buddha, the Enlightened One — sat motionless in bliss.
For seven days he stood aside and contemplated the place where he attained enlightenment.
For seven days he walked between the place where he sat and the place where he stood. For seven days he remained in a tent erected by the gods and reflected on the teaching of causality and liberation.
For seven days he sat under the tree where the girl Sujata had offered him milk rice in a golden bowl and meditated on the doctrine of the bliss of Nirvana.
He moved to another tree, and a terrible storm raged for seven days, but from the roots of the tree emerged the King of Serpents and protected the Buddha, spreading his hood.
And finally, for seven days the Buddha sat under a fourth tree, still enjoying the bliss of liberation. Then he doubted whether he could convey his revelation to others and considered keeping the wisdom to himself; but from the zenith descended the god Brahma and asked him to become the teacher of gods and men. Thus the Buddha came close to proclaiming the Path. And then he went back to the cities of men, where, interacting with the inhabitants of the world, he granted them the priceless gift of the knowledge of the Path.”

And are you aware that everywhere it says he fought with this Mara, as if it were something bad? But in reality, Mara passed all power to him. And when he resisted Mara — or more precisely, when she was doing something with him — she wasn’t actually tempting him,
