This is a bit hard to grasp, but it’s important to at least note it. What I’m showing you now is what formed inside thanks to the eight cubes. When I built eight cubes around my main cube, I ended up with a sphere made of two dodecahedrons and two icosahedrons. I’ll try to show you more clearly by turning this into a sphere and highlighting just the points — the vertices — as an example.
