If I am now alone and go off on some expedition, or simply on some hike to a waterfall or to some cave, and there is a group of people, and there is some pretty girl walking together with us, and she looks at me and I look at her, then as long as this is happening — it is magic. And as I described earlier, when I was small, that it is as though this flower is growing, and you cannot pluck it and put it in your pocket, otherwise all the magic disappears, the flower will wither. And so, as long as this girl is walking, and as long as we are in this hike, I can feel love, infatuation, and feel as though I am in some film about love, some youthful, student one, and I will feel crazy happiness. Also suppose that after the hike I find this girl on Facebook, or she finds me, and we exchange photos from the hike. But it is as though the less... And I remember this exactly from childhood, when I was in this magical world. And what happens is, the less I ask her what city she is from, what country, how old she is, what she does — the less I ask this, the more chances there are that I will not lose this magic, but will prolong it, this enchantment. And if it is like this with us:
— And do you like this photo?
— Yes.
— And this one?
— Yes.
— Well, great. Next time you go on a hike, we’ll see each other. And here’s a song for you.
— All right.
And it is as though if communication is like this — not shifting to personalities and not shifting to evaluation of who she is, who I am — then the magic remains, and this feeling of love, this magical connection. But as soon as you give food to the mind, and if you feed the mind, then it wakes up and destroys all the magic. As soon as you begin with the mind to evaluate and to delve into what her name is, how old she is, who her parents are, and so on and so on, and to evaluate all of this with the mind — then that is it, all the miracles disappear, faith disappears, love disappears, everything goes out, all the feelings.
