- Watch the series “Leftovers”
serves as its core and even a kind of linchpin — is a TV series. It is the series
The Leftovers. Right at the necessary time, at the right hour, in the right year
and month, my attention was focused on this show; it was time to turn it
on. Naturally, I experienced and went through various interesting internal
sensations and reinterpretations. First of all, of course, I was shocked by
the music. Why? Because in 2020, when the COVID pandemic began and
the entire world literally began to go mad — directly, literally. No matter how
much this has been forgotten, no matter how much everyone has already
let it slip — and people’s memories, let’s say, are not great — I remember
perfectly everything that people felt, what they thought, and what they did.
I remember how most Hollywood celebrities on social media were trying to
calm the public by showing, through their own example, how they were staying
at home and following all the regulations. I clearly remember a priest driving
around my city, St. Petersburg, or in the suburbs nearby, consecrating the
city from his car. I remember perfectly how, all over the world, checkpoints
stood at borders with soldiers, various inspection services, and people in
hazmat suits — like in zombie movies — checking everyone at the entrance
and exit: whether you were sick or not, whether you had been vaccinated.
And how many rumors were spread just to increase the panic — whether
you could get vaccinated or not — and how much hysteria many people felt.
I remember how many things in people’s lives were ruined; many lost their
jobs, many lost their families simply because they stayed home together
longer than before, and this had a very profound impact. Many withdrew into
themselves, while many others became emotionally unstable and aggressive.
I remember perfectly traveling with an acquaintance on a train from
St. Petersburg to Moscow. This person works at Mail.ru and has a chronic
condition — he sniffles — and a man in business class from the neighboring
row stood up and was ready to beat us. Just to beat and kill us, in a literal sense.
