A brief essence of the whole map in one sentence:
You pass through four states of consciousness-attention (evening → night → morning → day), you live them through not with the mind, but with your whole being → and when all four of them cease to frighten or blind you, suddenly it is revealed that the ladder was an illusion, and the Star, towards which you were supposedly ascending — this is precisely your own nature from the very beginning.
Connection with other traditions (very briefly)
• The four worlds of Kabbalah Assiah (action) ≈ Day / Rubedo Yetzirah (formation) ≈ Morning / Albedo Briah (creation) ≈ Evening Atziluth (divine emanation) ≈ The Star above all
• The Tree of Life The path often goes from the bottom upward along the central pillar: Malkuth → Yesod (night) → Tiferet (day) →… and ultimately to Keter, but through a sudden recognition, and not a linear ascent
• The Chakras (Indian version) Muladhara-Svadhisthana — night Manipura — morning Anahata — day Vishuddha-Ajna-Sahasrara — already the territory of the Star
• Christian mysticism The Night of the Senses → The Night of the Spirit → Enlightenment → Deification (theosis)
The most important thing that this text wants to say (in my view):
There is no need to try too hard to “ascend.”
One needs to honestly, courageously, and tenderly live through all four colors/times of
day within oneself.
And when all four of them cease to be a problem — the ladder will disappear on its own.
And then there remains only a quiet wonder:
“Ah… so this whole time it was Me.”
