3. The opening of the books of deeds — the “books” are revealed, in which all deeds, words, and thoughts are recorded (Rev. 20:12, Dan. 7:10). Nothing is hidden. The judgment is by deeds, by words (Matt. 12:36), by the heart. There is also the “book of life” — of those who abided in love and faith.
4. The separation — as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats (Matt. 25:32– 33). The righteous on the right hand, the unmerciful and the unrepentant on the left. The main criterion is love towards one’s neighbour as towards Christ Himself: “I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me” (Matt. 25:35–40, KJV). This is not formal deeds, but the fruit of a heart transfigured by grace.
5. The sentence and the eternal lot — the righteous go into eternal life, into the Kingdom prepared from the creation of the world (Matt. 25:34). The sinners — into eternal torment, into the fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41, 46). After this — a new heaven and a new earth (Rev. 21), where God will be all in all.”
Key passages from the Bible, where the Last Judgment is mentioned:
Rev. 20:4–6 — the first resurrection
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.”
Rev. 20:11–15 — the second resurrection (not called “the second” directly, but described as the general resurrection of the wicked after the thousand years, before the Last Judgment at the great white throne)
