3. The baptism and ministry of Jesus At the baptism, the Spirit descended in the form
of a dove. Then Jesus worked miracles by the power of the Spirit — healed the sick,
cast out demons, raised the dead (Matt. 12:28; Acts 10:38).
4. Pentecost — the birth of the Church The Spirit descended upon the apostles in the
form of tongues of fire. They began to speak in different tongues, and 3,000 people
were converted in one day (Acts 2). This miracle continues — the Spirit gives the
boldness to preach today as well.
5. Miracles through the apostles
- Healings of the paralyzed, the blind, the lame (Acts 3 — Peter healed the
lame man at the temple).
- The casting out of demons.
- The raising of the dead (Acts 9 — Tabitha; Acts 20 — Eutychus).
- The shaking of the earth from prayer (Acts 4:31).
The gifts of the Holy Spirit — miracles that He gives today
In 1 Corinthians 12:7–11, the gifts are enumerated that the Spirit distributes to each
as He wills. Among them, the especially “miraculous” ones:
• The gifts of healing — supernatural recovery (sometimes instantaneous).
• The gift of miracles (the working of miracles) — things that cannot be explained
by natural causes.
• The gift of faith — a special faith for great deeds.
• Prophecy — to speak from God.
• Tongues and interpretation — as at Pentecost.
• The discerning of spirits — to see where it’s from God, and where not.
Inner miracles (the most important!)
The Holy Spirit works miracles not only outwardly, but also in a person’s heart:
• New birth — transforms an egoist into a loving person.
• Comfort in the deepest pain.
• The fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience… (Gal. 5:22–23) — this is a real
miracle in everyday life.
• The transformation of character — from weak to strong, from coward to brave.
