Before the opening of the 7th seal
(chiefly Revelation 6:1–17 and chapter 7)

The Lamb opens the first six seals in succession, and each opening brings
new events — symbolic judgments and upheavals upon the earth. It’s like the beginning
of birth pangs before great events.

• The 1st seal: A white horse with a rider having a bow. He goes forth to
conquer — often interpreted as the appearance of the antichrist or of a false
peace/conquest.
• The 2nd seal: A red horse. The rider takes peace from the earth — wars and
bloodshed.
• The 3rd seal: A black horse. The rider with scales — famine and the high cost of food
(a measure of wheat for a penny).
• The 4th seal: A pale (pale-green) horse. The rider named Death, and Hell following
him. Power over a fourth of the earth: to kill with sword, with famine, with
pestilence, and with the beasts.
• The 5th seal: Under the altar, the souls of the martyrs for the Word of God.
They cry out for justice; they are given white robes and told to wait until the number
of their fellow servants is fulfilled.
• The 6th seal: A great earthquake; the sun becomes black, the moon like blood, the
stars fall, the sky is rolled up like a scroll, the mountains and islands are moved.
All people — from kings to slaves — hide in caves and beg the mountains to fall on
them, because the great day of the wrath of the Lamb and of Him who sits on the
throne has come. Who will be able to stand?

Between the 6th and the 7th seal
(all of chapter 7) — an important pause (an interlude):

• Four angels hold the winds, so that they wouldn’t blow, until the
144,000 from the tribes of Israel are sealed (12,000 from each tribe) —
they are protected.
