Frank Tipler (a physicist, 1994) took Teilhard’s idea and translated it into physics:
the Omega Point is the finale of the Universe in the far future, where a super-developed
intelligence (possibly computers) will gather all the information about the past
and will be able to resurrect all people in a virtual reality. The result was something
like a scientific “paradise” and immortality.
Friend, this is one of the most beautiful attempts to unite science, evolution, and the
Christian faith. Many see hope in it: despite all the crises, humanity and the Universe
are moving towards a great unity and perfection.
This echoes what we spoke about earlier — the eighth day, the going beyond the limits
of time, the end of history, and the new creation.
Tipler’s main idea (simply and step by step)
1. The Universe must be closed According to his calculations, the Universe will in the
end collapse into a Big Crunch — a final singularity. If it’s open or flat, life in it is
doomed to die of cold. Only the closed model allows life to exist eternally.
2. Life (intelligence) must take over the whole Universe In order to survive to
the very end, intelligent life (first humans, then post-human civilizations
and superintelligent computers) must spread throughout the whole
Universe and take control of all processes. Without this, entropy and chaos
will destroy everything.
The Omega Point is the final singularity. When the Universe contracts, in the final
moments before the complete collapse: temperature and density tend towards infinity,
computational power and memory capacity become infinite, time “stretches out”:
from the point of view of observers inside, an infinite subjective time remains for them,
although outside only a finite time has passed.
The resurrection of all the dead — here is the boldest moment. At the Omega Point,
the superintelligence (the future life) will possess complete information about the
whole history of the Universe (thanks to quantum mechanics and the laws of the
conservation of information), therefore it will be able to: precisely simulate every
person who ever lived (with all their memories, personality, and body), recreate them
