The earliest form of the name Hermes was recorded in Linear B as e-ma-ha and was pronounced in the Mycenaean language as hermāhās. Most classical scholars associate his name with the Ancient Greek word ἕρμα (“herma”), which referred to a column, boundary stones, or a pile of stones that also served as a symbol and depiction of Hermes. One of the attributes of Ningishzida resembles Hermes’ staff — the caduceus. Hermes is also identified with the ancient Egyptian Thoth. Unlike the “Babylonian” theory, the connection between the figures of Hermes and Thoth was noted even by ancient Greeks, including the “father of history” Herodotus, Plutarch, and Diodorus Siculus.
Originally, Hermes was a phallic deity. He was depicted as a phallus, symbolizing the fertilizing power of nature. The second oldest form of depicting Hermes was the hermae — a special type of sculpture consisting of a four-sided column topped with a head or bust.
The German philologist and archaeologist W. H. Roscher (1845–1923), in his book Hermes der Windgott, argued that in the pre-Archaic period of Greek history, Hermes was a god of the wind, and all his other functions in one way or another derive from this original one. Most modern classical scholars do not consider this version when describing Hermes’ activity. In contrast, representatives of Carl Gustav Jung’s school of analytical psychology, who study archetypes — including through ancient Greek myths — compare Roscher’s “wind god” Hermes with the “shamanic-magical” Hermes. They provide a linguistic interpretation of the Greek word pneuma, which simultaneously means “breath; breeze; spirit,” suggesting that Hermes could be both the god of wind and the god of souls.” I would add, you know, something interesting — just my own theory. If we imagine the matrix, then in the second volume of “Alternative History”, when I’m decoding the matrix, I show how the proportions of the human face are arranged, and that an inverted triangle fits perfectly into the human face: if we look at the three corners of the triangle, the top two corners are the left eye and the right eye, and the bottom corner is the mouth. And in the center, there’s a point — because it’s a tetrahedron — so the central point is the nose. If we assume that I found the Sun and the Moon, and the Sun is one eye and the Moon is the other eye, then the bottom vertex of the triangle is the mouth, as if you can look with the left eye, look with the right eye — like with the Moon and the Sun — and then blow with the mouth, and that is precisely the element Mercury.
