Conversation with the Mystic-Old-Man

Alexandr: I have a question. I have various rings and pendants with precious
stones. But it’s so amazing — I have one pendant shaped like a globus cruciger;
it’s a sphere divided into three parts with a cross on top. It is gold-plated,
made of silver, and quite small. But when I put it on, I feel an insane pressure
in my head and a humming sound. What is happening? What does it switch
on in me, or what is it connecting me to?
Mystic-Old-Man: It switches on in such a paradoxical way... Or rather,
it serves as a trigger that activates your attention. The point is, attention is
our psychophysics. The psyche itself, when interacting with attention, can
change anything in our physiology, sometimes even in a paradoxical way.
It is equivalent to when yogis concentrate on the navel; it’s not about the
navel itself. Everyone thinks that by concentrating on the navel, they are
training themselves. The navel is nothing more than a trigger that enters
into the system of ancestral interconnections — where this yogi comes from
and what he can reach through that navel. Therefore, we understand this
entirely incorrectly.
Alexandr: So it turns out that this “psycho-key-navel” isn’t about the navel,
but that through it, you connect to everything. Does it mean my pendant
performs the same function?
Mystic-Old-Man: Well, approximately, or something like that. By the way,
for each person, it can be anything at all.
Alexandr: So it affects everyone differently?
Mystic-Old-Man: Absolutely right, completely correct. If Achilles had
focused on his heel, he would have found out who he was — but he already
knew who he was. So the point here isn’t that...
Alexandr: Okay, but if we talk about the game being played with attention
here, specifically with this pendant, where does it ultimately connect a person?
Like a navel or like a heel?
Mystic-Old-Man: It could be either one. Like one or like the other.
The important thing is that it is a trigger.
