I begin to see that in all the alchemical images — most of them — there is always the “mother” and “father,” or a man and a woman, that is, the Sun and the Moon, but there is always a third element, either below them or above them — a star. This star contains an alchemical symbol, something like a little sphere, a cross beneath it, and a horn above it. And I start digging up even more images and archives where this appears, and I find that this star is called Azoth. That is, in many ancient alchemical illustrations, this star is referred to as Azoth. I start locking it in — this is Azoth. Then I look up what this symbol means, the sphere with the cross underneath and the horn on top, and it turns out it’s Mercury — it’s the planet Mercury.
